SEIFFE:  Missed Opportunities In Congressional Leaders

The election of the same old Republican House leaders this morning shows the national GOP learned very little last Tuesday.  By preserving the status quo, the surviving Republican Congressman have passed up the opportunity to create a principled opposition that would contrast favorably with the majority.  New leadership would have been able to build a platform for victory in 2008 based on ideas, not pork. By selecting Boehner and Blunt, we also confirm our tolerance for the sleaze that drove voters away from the Republican Party last week.  This is a stunningly stupid move that self-inflicts long-term minority, a situation that will not be remedied until 2014, at the earliest.
